Students

Each year, large numbers of students spend some time finding out what goes on behind the scenes at Mazars. Many take part in work placements. There are numerous options, including work experience, shadow and course specialisation placements in the various disciplines. The various possibilities are explained in more detail below:

Assurance practice

It is possible to experience the balance-sheet audits between February and June each year. As a member of the team, you will visit clients, audit the figures and learn all about the systems. From September to December you can join in with the interim audits. These are designed to evaluate internal processes. You will be allocated a personal coach and will always be supervised by more experienced colleagues on all assignments.

Your course specialisation work placement in the auditing practice may involve a single assignment for a client, perhaps advising on optimising corporate processes, or carrying out an independent graduation assignment (for example, a survey among employees culminating in a description of the administrative organisation arrangements at Mazars).

Compliance practice

During a work experience placement lasting a few weeks you can watch the work in progress and gain hands-on experience of simpler assignments. You will learn how annual accounts are compiled and what is involved. If you opt for a work placement in this practice lasting several months, you will gain a more detailed impression of compiling annual accounts and maintaining client records.

Some of our clients also offer the option of completing your final-year assignment in their company. You will be able to record interviews with staff about their roles and write a report on your findings. Alternatively, you can draw up recommendations for improving the administrative organisation, including an implementation plan.

Tax

Mazars has a compliance and an advisory practice. If your degree is in Fiscal Economics or Management, Economics and Law, you will shadow the compliance practice. During this shadow placement, you will compile income tax returns, for example, based on information submitted by clients (bank statements, statements of possessions and/or debts).

Your course specialisation placement offers you the chance to shadow the experts to gain a good overview of the practice and then to write your thesis, for instance on the subject of inheritance tax. Depending on the branch, as a student in higher vocational education (HBO) you can start in the compliance practice and progress on to advisory. Students at research universities (WO) will always join the tax advisory practice and will write their thesis there.

At your request, we can provide more details of the other options available for work placements. These include Management Consultancy (ranging from conducting market research to supporting colleagues in consultancy concerning IT and management information), Transaction Services (offering advice on mergers and acquisitions) and Support Services (HR, Marketing & Communication, Central Administration and ICT).

There are also regular job opportunities for students at the various branches in different practices. You will work in the practice for between 1 and 3 days a week.

Newsletter

This digital newsletter, in Dutch, appears 3 times a year and informs students and starters about various interesting subjects. In addition it gives an overview of our stages and other vacancies.
