The social insurance of those employed cross-border in Europe is determined on the basis of European legislation.

The purpose of this legislation is to prevent someone being insured in more than one country or in no country at all. The relevant legislation has been amended as of May 1, 2010. The changes are particularly relevant for employees sent abroad, for employees engaged in two or more EU Member States and for director/major shareholders.
