8 March 2018 – Are you employing highly skilled migrants? If so, you must take account of the new salary criteria when signing agreements with your employees for 2018. The wage criteria are updated each year (on 1 January).
New wage criteria effective from 1 January 2018
Below, you will find the new gross monthly salaries as published by the Statistics Netherlands (Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek, CBS). These standard amounts exclude 8% holiday pay and apply from 1 January 2018.
- Highly skilled migrant aged 30 or over: €4,404 (2017: €4,324)
- Highly skilled migrant under 30 years of age: €3,229 (2017: €3,170)
- Foreign national who has graduated in the Netherlands: €2,314 (2017: €2,272)
Wages in kind
Wages in kind are not included in the assessment of this salary requirement. This provision concerns paid housing or a company car, for example. Thirteenth-month pay and fixed year-end bonuses are also excluded, unless they are actually paid to the highly skilled migrant on a monthly basis.
Foreign Nationals (Employment) Act
The salary requirement for highly skilled migrants derives from the Foreign Nationals (Employment) Act (Wet arbeid vreemdelingen, Wav). These standard amounts are indexed on an annual basis. The amounts are the minimum gross salary that must be paid for a highly skilled migrant in order to work within the Netherlands.
